A Brief History of Kerivan-Lane, Inc.

Kerivan-Lane, Inc. has been serving the Metro West for 95 years with plumbing, fuel oil, propane, oil & gas heating, ductless systems and HVAC.

After 95 years in business, Kerivan-Lane truly is a family success story.

Founded in 1922 by John J. Kerivan as a plumbing and heating contracting company, Kerivan-Lane provided service to local homeowners and area industries such as Carters, Gamewell and Sherman Paper. Unfortunately, John J. Kerivan died at the age of forty-two, leaving his wife Sarah Kerivan to run the business until their nephew, John R. Lane, bought it in 1954.

The transition was a smooth one since John had been trained by and worked for his uncle for many years. In addition to his work experience, John had a degree in economics from Harvard College and a Master Plumber License.

As the business grew and expanded into heating oil delivery, so did John’s family. Married in 1951, John and Grace Lane were blessed with five children, all of whom have been actively involved in the business at one time or another.

Kerivan-Lane lost an invaluable person in November of 1999 when John passed away. After 45 years as President of the company, he left big shoes to fill.

The business continues to expand and improve with three of Jack’s children still actively involved:

Christopher M. Lane, a 1981 Boston College graduate, is the General Manager and President of the company. Chris has also served as a State Senator in the Massachusetts State Legislature.

John K. Lane, a 1976 Boston College graduate, is the Vice President of the company.

Suzanne Lane Bandanza, a 1983 Skidmore College graduate, is the Human Resources Manager.

Meghan, Genevieve, and Briana Lane are all a part of the Kerivan-Lane team now!

Three of Christopher Lane’s children, Meghan Lane, Briana Lane Tompkins, and Genevieve Lane, have also joined the team working in Customer Service, Dispatching, and Marketing. We are so proud to have the fourth generation actively involved. Only 3% of family businesses continue through the fourth generation. Kerivan-Lane truly is a family success story.
