The World According to Max
May 16, 2013

One of the fun things about working at a family business is that other family members frequently stop by to visit. In the middle of a stressful day it can be great to pause for a minute to chat and laugh together. The hardest part is making sure the social break doesn’t last too long!

Our youngest (and possibly most entertaining) visitor is John Maxwell Lane. Grandson of Jack Lane, Max fills our office with stories about Power Rangers, friends at school, tee ball and the limitless exuberance of the very young. Max comes by every few weeks and, since we have quite a few golf fanatics here, has listened to his share of golf stories. One day, out of the blue, he said, “You know what the problem with golf is, Papa? They just keep missing.”   As they say, …out of the mouths of babes oft times come gems.

Birthdays are of course a very popular subject. Candy, cake and ice cream, games, friends and presents – what could be better?  During these few months leading up to his birthday in August, Max tells everyone who will listen, “I’m turning a whole hand this year!”

Probably the best thing about having Max around is it reminds us all how thrilling each and every day can be. He needs so little to entertain himself. Some kind of mask, a cape or special pair of shoes, a stick or plastic sword and he is off…destination imagination!  We just have to smile.
